Fake Birch Logs

I just go crazy when I see a television show or internet site featuring a craft that someone has put together from something ordinary. When people get creative, and make fabulous creations from next to nothing, it just triggers something inside my crafters mind. I simply have to make it! Youll feel the same way when you see fake birch logs. Theyre perfect for setting inside the fireplace during summer months and ideal for making Christmas crafts, centerpieces and more.

Before the internet crafters were limited to what they could do. Sure, craft stores sell thousands of different items for crafting anything you can imagine, but there were always things that your local craft store didnt carry. Now, we can just sit down, do a quick search, then order whatever we need. Do that, order corrugated wrap, and you can easily make fake birch logs for any project you have in mind.

Birch logs are so pretty because of their white bark. When you use cardboard and plaster youll make lightweight logs that look like the real thing. Cardboard wrap is corrugated on one side and flat on the other. You can order it in various widths to make the size of logs you wants. Roll the cardboard so that the corrugated side is on the inside, and roll it until the log is as large around as you want. Apply hot glue to the edge of the cardboard to secure it. Make tiny versions of the logs, cut them small and roll them to be small in diameter, then hot glue them to the log. Just use a craft knife to cut one end of the limb at an angle, then use lots of hot glue to attach the angled side to the log. Attach one or more of these cut limbs to create the look of a real birch log. Use a disposable container and mix two parts plaster with one part water. Using disposable gloves, mix the plaster well. Smooth out any lumps then use the mix to coat the cardboard log. Scoop a little bit of the plaster up in one hand, and, working over newspaper, wipe the plaster from one end to the other on the log. Apply it thinly so that you can still see some of the brown color, here and there, around the log. Do the same to the attached branch pieces. Stand each log on one end to dry. The fake birch logs look so real you wont believe it. Stack them in or beside a fireplace, or set them on a covered porch. Use them to make centerpieces for holidays or other occasions. Make gifts for friends or use them for your own home d?cor. Theyre spectacular. Fake Log Video Tutorial
